08/09/14: Sam Hentges Named Louisville Slugger All-American
Sam Hentges was chosen as a 2014 Lousiville Slugger High School All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine. Congratulations Sam!
Sam is currently pitching for the Cleveland Indians Rookie League team in Arizona. Through 5 appearances, Sam has a 1.12 ERA with 8 K's and 4 BB's.
07/07/14: Sam Hentges Named to ABCA Rawlings All Region Team
Sam Hentges was named to the 2014 ABCA Rawlings High School All-Region Team for Region 5. Region 5 is comprised of the following states: IA, MN, NE, KS, MO, ND, SD, WI. Five players from Missouri, 2 from Nebraska, 1 from Kansas, 1 from Wisconsin, and 4 from Minnesota were selected. The other Minnesota players are Michael Baumann (Mahtomedi), Toby Hanson (Delano) , and Brad Mathiowetz (Rochester Mayo). Congratulations Sam!
06/23/14: Sam Hentges Signs Contract with Cleveland Indians
Sam Hentges traveled to Cleveland this past weekend and signed a professional contract with the Celveland Indians. Sam is now headed to Goodyear, Arizona to join their Rookie League team the Arizona League Indians. Good luck Sam!
06/22/14: High School All-Star Series Complete
Representing the Metro East, Kellen Rholl started the final and deciding game of the High School All-Star Series against Metro West. Kellen went the first 3 innings, and Metro East won on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 7th to win the All-Star Series. At the All-Star Series Banquet, Sam Hentges was named the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year. Congrats to both Kellen and Sam!
06/19/14: High School All-Star Series Begins Friday, June 20
The 2014 Minnesota High School All-Star Series games are Friday, June 20 - Saturday, June 21. Mounds View's Kellen Rholl was selected to play for the Metro East All-Star Team! The rosters consist of the top seniors from around the state that play a round robin tournament. Teams are organized into Metro East, Metro West, North and South.

06/19/14: Summer Fun Off and Running
The Summer Fun Program began recently. We have over 100 kids participating. With the high school team's recent run through the Section and State Tournament, we had a great opportunity to involve the Summer Fun participants in the high school team's pre-game hitting. The older kids were able to shag balls during pre-game BP before a game, and the younger kids were able to watch some pre-game BP before the state championship game from the dugout.

06/17/14: Mustangs Win State Championship!
The Mustangs defeated Eden Prairie 9-0 to win the State Championship at Target Field. The game was 1-0 in favor of Mounds View until the Mustangs scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 6th. It is the 2nd in a row for the Mustangs who also won the State Championship in 2013. See the newspaper reports below for details.

06/13/14: Mustangs Advance to State Championship Game
The Mustangs defeated Lakeville North 2-1 in a State Tournamant Semi-Final Game at Midway Stadium. Ryan Plasencia's walk-off base hit scored Joe Janey from 2B in the bottom of the 7th. Kellen Rholl pitched 7 very strong innings for the victory. The Mustangs will face Eden Prairie on Monday at 6:00PM at Target Field for the State Championship.

The 2014 Minnesota High School All-Star Series rosters are set. The rosters consist of the top seniors from around the state that play a round robin tournament. Teams are organized into Metro East, Metro West, North and South. This year's event is scheduled for June 20 and 21 at the Chaska Athletic Park. 05/28/14: Sam Hentges Receives Statewide Recognition
Gatorade and USA Today have announced that Sam Hentges has been named the 2013-14 Gatorade Minnesota Baseball Player of the Year. In its 29th year, the Gatorade Player of the Year Award honors top high school student-athletes in 12 varsity sports for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. Men, in cooperation with the Minnesota Twins, have announced that Sam is a finalist
for the 2014 Mr. Baseball Award. The
senior baseball players have been nominated by college baseball coaches
statewide along with professional scouts as leaders in the Minnesota baseball high school leagues. A banquet will take place on June 15 at Jax Café
to honor their achievements and select an award winner. The other finalists are: Mike Baumann

05/20/14: Season-End Banquet
The Season-End Banquet was held on Sunday where all teams and players were recognized. The seniors were honored and received engraved bats as a momento of their high school baseball experience.

05/20/14: St. Paul Lions Club Award
Sam Hentges was recognized at a luncheon Tuesday as a finalist for the 2014 St. Paul Downtown Lions Male Athlete of the Year award. The male award winner announced at the event was Tyus Jones from Apple Valley High School. The Female Athlete of the Year Award went to Mikayla Rogers from St. Paul Highland Park. Congratulations Sam and all the finalists!
05/12/14: Senior Day
It was Senior Day as the Mustangs hosted Forest Lake on Monday. Ten seniors participated in a brief ceremony before the game to recognize them and their parents for 4 great years of athletics at Mounds View High School!
05/10/14: SAYB Day
It was SAYB Day as the varsity hosted Irondale at Mounds View High School on Saturday. Many SAYB players participated in activities, prizes and enjoyed free hot dogs. Thanks to the many that contributed, especially Jeff Rholl and Alex Lape for leading this event!
04/26/14: Batting Cage Turtle In Use
The Diamond Club recently purchased a new batting cage turtle for the Baseball program. It is a top-notch and classy piece of equipment for the baseball field that will last for many years.
The players were really excited to use it for the first time on Friday. Thanks to the Diamond Club for this generous contribution to the program!

Mounds View Senior Kellen Rholl signed his letter of intent to play baseball at Angelo State University today in a ceremony at Mounds View High School. Congratulations Kellen!

03/29/14: MVHS Grad Seth Rosin Waived to Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers claimed 2007 MVHS Grad and right-handed pitcher Seth Rosin off waivers from the
Los Angeles Dodgers this past week. Since joining the Rangers, he threw 2 scoreless innings for the save 2 days ago, and pitched a scoreless final
inning in the Rangers final Exhibition Game today at the Alamodome vs. the
Houston Astros. Previously, Seth pitched 11 innings in four games in the Cactus League this
spring for the Dodgers, allowing two earned runs, on 10 hits and two
walks with 12 strikeouts. He is on the Big League 25 man roster, and the Rangers
open the regular season on Monday at home vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.

02/27/14: Kellen Rholl Commits to Angelo State University
Mounds View Senior Kellen Rholl committed to play baseball at Angelo State University. Located in San Angelo, Texas, the Rams are an NCAA Division II School that competes in the Lone Star Conference. Kellen, a LHP, posted an ERA of 1.21 last spring for the Mustangs, and an ERA of 0.63 last summer for Tri-City Red Legion.
01/27/14: Smalley Speaks at Annual Diamond Club Fundraiser
The Diamond Club's 8th annual fundraising dinner and
silent auction held at Kozlak's on Sunday night was a huge success in raising
funds in support of the Mounds
School baseball program. Monies raised will
help purchase equipment, uniforms, assistant coaches, indoor fieldhouse
practices, and many other items to provide a quality and memorable
experience for the players.
Roy Smalley provided many stories from his experiences as a 13
year major league baseball player. He also
addressed the players in attendance about the importance of teamwork and the
ability to “grind” through obstacles to achieve success.
Thanks to the many people who helped make this a memorable
event! Special thanks to the Event
Committee! - Mary Kay Callahan, Elaine Carnahan,
Sharon Cline, Mary Hentges, Lisa Lovdahl, Mark Fredrickson, Alex

Baseball Old Timers Hot Stove League of America’s 74th Annual
Banquet. This Hot Stove Banquet is a
long-standing annual tradition in St.
Paul. This year’s
featured guests and speakers included Gophers Coach John Anderson, Twins representatives
Dave St. Peter (President), Jim Rantz (former Minor League Director), Terry
Ryan, Tom Kelly, and several players including Joe Mauer. Previous award winners include Mounds
View grads Max Knutson (2012) and Jesse Nichols (2010), and two of Sam’s Tri-City Red Legion coaches, Steve
Grasley and Billy Schneider.
Sam was also recently named to the Louisville Slugger 2014 High School Pre-Season All-American team and the Max Preps 2014 Pre-Season All-American team.

Downey Letter to MVHS Baseball Alumni
Mounds View 2007 alum Seth Rosin was traded today to the Los Angeles Dodgers and placed on the Dodgers 40 man big league roster. He posted a 4.33 ERA with 6.8 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 126 2/3 innings for the Phillies' Double-A affiliate in 2013, and he was selected to play in the AA Eastern League All-Star Game this past season as well. This is a big week for Seth; he is also completing his Business and Marketing degree from the University of Minnesota. Congratulations Seth!
The Diamond Club announces the 8th Annual Dinner and Silent Auction. It will be held at Kozlak's on Sunday, January 26th. The Diamond Club is excited to celebrate last season's state championship and look forward to another great season in 2014!
This year's featured speaker will be Roy Smalley. Smalley was the 1st overall MLB draft pick in 1974, and played 9 of his 13 seasons in the major leagues with the Minnesota Twins. He played in the 1979 All-Star Game and was a member of the Twins World Championship team in 1987. A complete Bio on Smalley can be found at this link:

The Minnesota State High School League produces a Baseball yearbook and Record Book annually in November for the previous season. This year's edition contains information about the Mustangs run to the State Championship in 2013. Here is a link to this document:

Twenty-two players worked at the Arden Hills Cub Foods to help customers bag groceries. The day before Thanksgiving was a very busy day at Cub Foods, and the efforts raised significant dollars for the baseball program. Thanks to all who participated! And, special thanks to Elaine Carnahan who led this event!

The Diamond Club Softener Salt Fundraiser concluded Saturday with Mounds View baseball players and parents picking up their bags of softener salt to then deliver them to customers. Thanks to all the people that participated in this event, and special thanks to Alex Lape for leading this fundraiser!
- 11/13/2013: Sam Hentges Signs Letter of Intent with Arkansas
Sam Hentges signed a letter of intent today to attend Arkansas University next fall on a baseball scholarship. At Arkansas, Sam will have the opportunity to both pitch and play in the field. Arkansas has been to the College World Series 7 times; most recently in 2012. Arkansas plays home games in front of an average attendance of 8,000 people. Congratulations Sam! Also making commitments from MVHS on National Letter of Intent Signing Day were Summer Brills (Drake - Tennis) and Bella Sutton (Penn State - Hockey); congrats to them as well!
- 11/3/2013: Composting Fundraiser A Success
Approximately 30 Players worked at the Arden Hills Compost Site, helping customers unload their yard waste. Significant dollars were raised for the baseball program. The customers made many very positive comments about the helpfulness of the players. Thanks to all who participated! And, special thanks to Jeff Scholl who led this event!
- 10/26/2013: Jon Nuss Receives 2013 AAA Coach of the Year Award
Jon Nuss received the AAA Baseball Coach of the Year Award at the annual Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Meeting. The 2013 State Championship for the Mustangs was the first in Mounds View High School history. Congratulations Jon!
- 09/27/2013: 2013 State Championship Team Recognized at Homecoming
The 2013 State Championship was celebrated at halftime of the homecoming football game on Friday night. It was a great opportunity for the team to be recognized in front of so many students, parents, school personnel and people in the community! The team advanced to the state tournament by defeating Cretin-Derham Hall in a thrilling 3-2 Section Championship victory. They then defeated Forest Lake and Coon Rapids in the State Tournament to advance to the State Championship Game held at Target Field. The Mustangs defeated Rocori 8-0 in the championship game for the program's first ever state championship in baseball! Coach Nuss said, "It was a great thrill and a great accomplishment for the players and people of the community. We really came together as a team and our great chemistry held us together through some tense moments. I am proud to have been a part of it and grateful to have worked with such a great coaching staff."
- 08/04/2013: Former Mustang Mark Hamburger Signs With Minnesota Twins
Former Mounds View High School pitcher Mark Hamburger signed with the Minnesota Twins today. Hamburger went 6-8 with a 3.26 earned-run average in 21 starts for the St. Paul Saints this summer. Prior to this summer with the Saints, Hamburger had MLB stops with the Twins, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres and Houston Astros.
